The Role of Cancer Nurse Specialists
Reframe Cancer’s team of cancer nurse specialists serves as a trusted first point of contact for patients. Their support has led to positive outcomes such as preventing illness escalation, reducing psychological distress, and improving symptom management. The data reveals that 87% of patients experienced a reduction in psychological distress, while 40% saw improved symptom management.
Efficient Patient Support
The majority of patients (86%) received support from a single professional, with only 14% requiring a multidisciplinary team (MDT) assessment. This indicates that most issues were effectively managed by individual nurse specialists, reserving MDTs for more complex cases.
Accelerated Healthcare Services
Reframe Cancer’s accelerated healthcare services, such as arranging primary care appointments, clinical referrals, or pain relief, saved patients an average of 16 days. This swift response not only improved patient outcomes but also reduced high dependency cases from 38% to 33%, while increasing lower dependency patients from 19% to 23%.
Employment Support
Throughout this period, Reframe Cancer also provided employment support, with 100% of patients reporting improved confidence in managing employment-related concerns.
Reframe Cancer’s commitment to clinical excellence and patient support continues to make a significant difference in the lives of cancer patients, offering a unique advantage to employers and insurers alike.
Elisa Pasinetti, Service Delivery lead
Elisa Pasinetti, Service Delivery lead at Reframe Cancer commented: “Every cancer patient is on their own unique pathway, as such we recognise that it is important that patients have quick and easy access to a specialist nurse who can answer any questions they have or allay any concerns. We use our knowledge and expertise to support patients and sometimes guide them to any support or resources they need, be it practical, psychological, or just being there to listen. By helping cancer patients to feel in control and supported as much as we can we also empower them to make their own informed decisions at the same time. Now we are CQC registered we can do so much more, and the job is even more rewarding the bigger the difference we make.”
