Reframe announces a new three-year extension and service expansion with the RFU for cancer support.
October 2021
In addition to renewing their current cancer service with Reframe, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) has expanded support to cover carers and include Reframe’s information and guidance line. This continued partnership enables the RFU to support more individuals impacted by cancer with a holistic, ongoing and flexible solution.
The RFU is the national governing body for grassroots and elite rugby in England. Paula Grant, People Director highlights the need to support colleagues when they need it most,
“As an employer we see first-hand the direct and indirect impact of cancer on our colleagues’ lives and are committed to putting the right affordable support in place. I know the Reframe service is classed as an employee benefit but really for us it’s more than that; it’s a source of hope and continuity to help people get through a life-changing experience. We consider Reframe an essential component in how we support people and those around them when they are ill – on a par with things like enhanced sick pay.”
The impact of a cancer diagnosis is far too often lost amid the emphasis on overall mental, physical and financial health among employers’ wellbeing strategies. Cancer affects people in different ways, many of which are beyond those with the diagnosis itself. Behind every diagnosis there is a support network that spreads across and outside the workplace. Resulting in a ripple effect among HR, line managers, colleagues and employees who will be affected in their own unique way, have their own questions and need their own support.
Catherine McDermott, CEO at Reframe explains,
“Delayed diagnoses, a stretched NHS and anxiety about waiting times – let alone the ability to access care – are all factors that are likely to lead to an increase in costs for employers. As we adjust to living in a world with COVID, more and more people are leaning on their support network at home. For employers this can mean supporting employees who may be juggling additional caring responsibilities – all part of the cancer fallout. The steps the the RFU is making in this area are a testament to their commitment to respond to the ever-changing pressures and anxiety that are being felt equally across sport and the workplace. The service extension demonstrates their forward-thinking approach to the health challenges that lay ahead.”
