Karla
Cancer Support Manager

I support patients by providing practical guidance, emotional support, and personalised research. Whether it's helping someone find information, signposting useful services, or simply offering a listening ear, my role is about ensuring patients feel heard, supported, and empowered.

What I enjoy most is creating a space where patients can talk openly and freely. Sometimes, having a conversation that isn't focused solely on their diagnosis can make a real difference, and if I can bring a little laughter into someone's day, that's always a bonus.
Much of my work involves researching solutions for patients, from answering everyday questions to helping with more complex situations. For example, helping a patient's husband find accommodation near the hospital so he could remain close during her treatment.
I chose to work in cancer support because I believe every patient deserves person-centred care. The most rewarding part of my role is hearing that we've helped make their experience a little easier, whether through practical advice, emotional support, or simply taking the time to listen.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my daughter and large extended family. I also attend an adult tap dancing class each week and regularly perform in dance shows alongside my daughter.
